Today AMDEA joins Which? Electrical Safety First and other safety organisations & trade groups representing 100s of responsible businesses to call on Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Employment Rights, Competition and Markets in the Department of Business and Trade, Justin Madders, to make online marketplaces accountable for the safety of products sold. This will give consumers confidence, let businesses compete fairly, and help the UK economy grow.
AMDEA CEO Stefan Hay says: ‘The Product Regulation and Metrology Act was an important first step but it is vital that the Government follows up with strong measures to combat the sale of unsafe products and spare parts sold online.
UK consumers need to be protected as much when purchasing goods online as when they purchase goods on the high street. This is something AMDEA has been calling for, for the past year in our policy recommendations Roadmap to a Sustainable Appliance Future. We are happy to join the other signatories to call for robust regulation of online market places.’
