Smart Appliances
Connected Appliances bring many benefits. In addition to enabling additional user features, connected appliances can also play a key role in supporting safe appliances by providing a pathway to identify where appliances are located and a route to ‘over the air’ communication and software delivery. Smart appliances also have the potential to prempt product service requriements, notifying a user of the need for service in advance of a machine breakdown.
Producers of Connected Appliances have a responsibility to ensure that connections are secure to safeguard consumers’ cybersecurity as well as safe usage. Data management and security and compliance with data protection regulation is a mandatory requirement.
AMDEA leads on many strands of work relating to Connected Appliances and represents the industry within UK and International working groups.
We are a founder member of the Connected Home Forum, a group chaired by Electrical Safety First and DLA Piper. This group is a cross industry stakeholder group set up to facilitate the development of smart technolgies that will result in safer homes and to encourage inter operability protocols that will ensure that different manufacturer’s products can link with each other.
